Computer-Aided Design (CAD) is essential for mechanical design of all types. Students enter this workshop to find that CAD is not as hard as it sounds. Using Onshape, a powerful browser CAD platform, students will learn how to design 3D models with accuracy and read scaled dimensions.

There is no prior knowledge required.
Flexible sessions to suit each group of students.

Typically meant for ages 10-16. TinkerCAD is recommended for younger students.

Topics Covered

2D Sketches

Before creating a 3D object, students need a reference shape. Creating a sketch will be the first step in designing accurate CAD models.

Proper CAD Usage

What is CAD for, how can it apply in the real world. Students will go over various discussion questions to help them understand what CAD is and how to use it efficiently.

3D Modeling with Onshape

Once students have a sketch, they will learn how to extrude and modify their 3D object with various features including; fillet, chamfer, shell, and sweep.
